Two Year Old Program
The Two Year Old Program is an exciting time of independence and exploration of the environment. Each of our 2 classrooms has 16 children, 3 full time teachers and 1 part time teacher. We strive to provide an adult/child ratio of 1:5 at all times, however a minimum adult/child state licensing ratio of 1:8 will always be maintained. Lower ratios allow teachers to provide more individualized attention and care at a time when self-help skills are being developed. Through Parents as Teachers and Project Construct curricula, and children’s individual goals, teachers create a learning environment which focuses on social emotional development. Developmentally appropriate activities foster independence and self-esteem, in addition to encouraging language, motor, social, and cognitive development. These activities are the building blocks for later school success.
Teachers supervise children by sight and sound at all times. As active two year olds, teachers continually conduct head counts throughout the day and at the beginning and end of each transition. Since “potty training” is a major stage of development for a two year old, teachers continually emphasize and monitor the importance of hygiene and handwashing throughout the day.
